“Who can separate us from the Jesus A Gospel Of Love? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? For it is written: For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep to the slaughter. Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels, nor principalities nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor any other created things, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 8:35-39
As children growing up and attending Sunday school most of us were taught to sing the song “Jesus Loves Me.” I remember the song well and I still sing it today, (that goes with having grandchildren). The one verse that stands out is ‘Yes Jesus loves me, for the bible tells me so” as children we believed that verse and held on to it, when ever we became scared or felt alone we could always sing “Yes Jesus Loves Me” and start to feel comfort.
As adults we still know the words and at times will sing the song but we have forgotten the truth to it. We have forgotten that the love of God has no limits, that nothing can separate us from His love. God’s love is unconditional and there is nothing we can do that will stop Him from loving us, yes He will hate some of the things we do and we will disappoint Him a lot of times, but He will never cease to love us. There is nothing we can say or do that will make God love you more or less, that is what unconditional love is.
As parents we show unconditional love to our children, at times they may do things that will disappoint us or cause us to anger, but no matter what they may do we never love them any less. Our children will do things that make us proud and we can’t wait to share it with the world, but that doesn’t make us love them any more than we already do. That is what unconditional love is and that is how God feels towards us because we are His Children, we can disappoint Him, we can anger Him, and we can please Him, but he will still love us the same. The dictionary gives the definition for unconditional as “Limited by no conditions; absolute.”
